My 2016 Beauty Wishlist

I’ve decided that I want this year to be the year I get my shit together and really master my makeup. Over the past two years, I’ve slowly built up my collection, but there still are plenty of products I’d love to have and tons of skills I still need to master (hello, contouring). These are some of the products I’m hoping to add to my collection in 2016.

tarte in bloom

The first product on my wishlist is the Tartelette In Bloom Clay Eyeshadow Palette. I own one Tarte palette that I use almost daily and I’m in love with it, which is why I’d love to add this palette to my collection. The colors in this palette are great neutrals and pinks, which I think would complement the eyeshadows that I already own.

The next product I want to get in 2016 is the NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream Set #3. The colors featured in this set are Antwerp, San Paulo, and Amsterdam. I recently bought my friend Brianna one of the NYX sets and she’s loving them, so I want to try them myself. I mainly wear darker lipsticks, so I want to expand to include some brighter/softer lip colors to my collection.

I am dying for Dita Von Teese’s MAC Lipstick. It’s a matte tomato red, which I think would be a really fun and sexy shade to add to my lip collection. I’m also really looking forward to Ariana Grande’s collaboration with MAC Viva Glam – I plan on buying the whole collection when it comes out.

Like I said earlier, I really want to learn how to contour. I have heard amazing things about Kat Von D’s Shade + Light Contour Palette, so I would love to give it a try. Side note: if anyone knows of a good contouring tutorial for beginners, let me know! I literally know nothing about it, haha.

I’m also looking to expand my brush collection this year. I absolutely love all my Real Techniques brushes, which is why I want to get some more from them. The Core Collection from them features a detailer brush, a pointed foundation brush, a buffing brush, and a contour brush. I think these would make great additions to my makeup routine and I’m really looking forward to buying them.

DOT3

I absolutely love Marc Jacobs perfumes. Dot has always been my favorite – I probably spray it on myself every time I got to Macy’s – so this is the year I am buying it. If I have the time after my internship, I might actually run out and pick it up this week!

Quick & Easy Makeup

My New Year’s Eve was nothing wild this year: dinner with my parents, browsing the internet, and watching a movie on Netflix. But that doesn’t mean I didn’t want to look cute! I went for a really quick and easy natural makeup look that you can achieve in ten minutes or less.

I started off with a neutral base, using a BB cream and a matte face powder to avoid shine. Since blush tends to make me look like a clown, I just used a shimmery pink highlighter on the apples of my cheeks.

I blended out a silvery MAC shadow on my eyelids and a creamy vanilla E.L.F. shadow in the crease for the color on my eyes. I used the new NYC City Proof 24-hour eyeliner in black (which I got for FREE from Influenster! Want to join? Click here!) along my waterline and did a small cat eye for a little bit of fun, and finished off with a coat of black mascara.

To complete my look, I just applied a quick swipe of a really neutral lip gloss. It’s fun, easy, and can really be worn anywhere! Tweet me a picture if you try this look out 🙂

Latest Loves: My Etsy Wishlist

If you know me, you know I love Etsy more than anything. There are so many wonderful shops full of things that you just can’t find at the mall. I also love supporting smaller artisans. I feel like I can justify a lot of my purchases from Etsy by the fact that there are so many unique items on there! Here are some of the latest things I’m coveting from Etsy.

ceramic bowls

These little porcelain pots from karoArt are so small and cute! At just over $15 each, I want to get a few of them for my dorm room to store cute little trinkets and my jewelry. The subtle colors make for the perfect addition to any desk or dresser.

postcards

I am in love with these precious patterned postcards from stationeryboutique. Anyone who knows me well knows how much I love sending and getting mail. I collect stationery like it’s my job and I can’t wait to add these to my card box! A pack of twelve is only $18 and they’re handmade, so I know I’m going to be purchasing these soon.

sweet dreams

This “Sweet Dreams” gold foil print is super cute! An 8″ by 10″ print from craftmeigold is $20 and I can get a cheap frame for it from Christmas Tree Shop. I think this would be a pretty addition to any office or desk! The shop is full of pretty prints, so if this one isn’t your cup of tea, I’m sure there is one out there for you.

bookend

I love a good book, so this wooden ampersand bookend would be great for keeping my book collection together. Design Atelier Article handmakes each of these for only $35. Anyone who likes reading should consider picking one of these up!

boots

These vintage fur-cuffed ankle boots from Allen Company are to die for! Finds like these are why I love Etsy. Even though they’re not my size, I’m in L-O-V-E. If you wear a size 9.5 and have some money to splurge on cute new shoes, you might want to snag these before someone else does!

bracelet

FolirinMaids has these pretty delicate little bracelets. You get to customize them with your initial and birthstone, which I absolutely love. At $15, it’s a total bargain. I plan on buying one for myself soon.

YSL Voxbox Review

As a member of Influenster, I’ve been lucky enough to receive a few voxboxes, which are basically boxes full of products that they ask you to try out. In return, I provide them with my opinions on the products. I received all of the following product complimentary from Influenster for testing purposes.

The YSL Voxbox was the first “designer” voxbox they’ve sent out since I’ve been a member of the site. I honestly have never bought big brand makeup before, because the cost was always what held me back. However, if someone wants to offer me a $32 mascara to try out, I’d be a fool to turn it down!

The Yves Saint Laurent Volume Effect Faux Cils mascara was just recently rereleased. I was given a tube in #1 – High Density Black. I was pleased to receive a color that I could actually wear on a daily basis, since I tend to wear very neutral makeup (or no makeup at all) from day to day.

I have to say, reading the description of the mascara left me quite skeptical. After all, being told that “the nylon fiber brush coats each lash in deep color and maximum volume from root to tip, while B5 Pro-Vitamin strengthens and protects lashes” seemed way too good to be true. However, I was pleasantly surprised. I could feel the difference in the way it glided onto my lashes, and it left them looking fuller than they typically did with my Clinque mascara. I think I’ll have to wear it a little more to tell if it makes my lashes stronger. But I would certainly recommend investing in it – I’m sold.
